Financial Information for Students

If you are completing your current course and are progressing on to your 2nd year or on to the next level you may wish to get your finance sorted for the next academic year now as most of the forms for Student Finance for Further Education for the 17/18 Academic year are now available:

Travel Pass

Students must be under 19 on 1 July 2017 and on a full-time course.  Student must live at least 3 Miles from the College with no closer College offering a similar course. 

How to apply - Applications are available from all College Site Administration Offices or Student Finance Office TQ-1-029.

Educational Maintenance Allowance (for course level 1 – 3)

EMA is for full time students aged between 16, 17, 18 or 19 on or between 2 July 2016 and 1 July 2017. This award is means-tested on household income and students may receive £30 per week.

Further Education Awards (for course levels 1 – 3)

Full Time Award - Students must be 19 or over on 1 July 2017. This is a means-tested award for full-time students of up to £2092.  Other criteria apply, closing date 1st September 2017

Part Time Award - Students must be 19 or over on 1 July 2017. This is a Means-tested award consisting of a Tuition Fee Grant up to £465 and a grant for books and related costs of up to £265.  Other criteria applies, closing date 29th September 2017

(Students eligible for both FE Award & EMA cannot receive both)


Which Childcare fund you apply to heavily depends on your age.  If you are Aged 16 – 20 apply toCare to Learn Scheme.  If you are Aged 20 or over – Apply to Further Education Award Childcare

Care to Lean Scheme – Childcare scheme that assists young parents aged 16-20 back into Further Education. Assists with Childcare costs of up £165 per week per child.

How to apply - Application are available on request from the Student Finance Office TQ-1-029 from end of July 2017.

Further Education Award Childcare – Student must be 20  or over by the start of their course and eligible for an FE Award.  Award consists of help towards childcare costs of up to £130 for one child or £220 for two or more children. 

How to apply - To Apply simply tick the Childcare box on the front of you Further Education Award application and a childcare application will be sent out to you.

Other Funding

Hardship Fund Students must be 18 or over at the start of the academic year. Assistance is means-tested and students must have applied to all other sources of finance that is available to them in the first instance and be progressing academically.

Hardship Childcare - If you are over 20 and studying Full-time or Part-time and not entitled to childcare through Student finance NI you could be eligible for assistance towards Childcare cost from the Hardship Fund.

How to apply - Applications for 17/18 will be available from September 2017

Princes Trust Development Award - If you’re aged 16-30 and need funding to get into Training/Education, you could potentially receive a grant of up to £250 to help pay for Fees, equipment, tools etc to help reach your educational goals.
